(Basseterre, St. Kitts) –   Taiwan’s Ambassador to the Federation, John K Liu, presented Honourable Cedric Liburd with a cheque for the completion of the St. Peter’s sporting complex.  The brief ceremony took place on Mar. 18 at the facility in the presence of students and teachers of the Dean Glasford Primary School and others in the area.

Ambassador Liu urged the young men and women of the community to cherish and use the facility.  “I encourage you to take good care of the facility and to make good use of it,” he said.

“Mr. Liu, you are the action ambassador. You came, you saw the need and you assisted,” he added.

The cheque represents the second instalment of funds to the St. Peter’s sporting complex.  Much of the phase one work on this project has been completed, including the completion of the pavilion, new seating and the construction of change rooms for teams, a bar and public washrooms.

Phase one was funded at EC$650,000, and phase two will be funded at US$399,538 or just over EC$1 million.  Phase two includes the fencing of the ground and roofing of the pavilion.

Last month, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas announced Taiwan’s funding of this and other community based initiatives and sporting facilities.  He also announced the further funding by Taiwan for the completion of the Bird Rock athletic stadium to the tune of over US$2 million.
