The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Zidane Soleil Knight, a St. Kitts and Nevis student and recipient of a Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Scholarship.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Embassy said it was with “profound sadness and a heavy heart” that it extended condolences to Knight’s family, loved ones, classmates and friends.
“Ms. Knight was a bright, dedicated, and inspiring young student committed to expanding her horizons and pursuing academic excellence,” the Embassy said.
It described her passing as “a heartbreaking loss” that would be deeply felt in both St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.
The Embassy added: “To her grieving family, loved ones, classmates, and friends: please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of immense sorrow.”
The Ministry of Education in St. Kitts and Nevis has also extended condolences to Knight’s parents, Stanley and Mrs. Knight.
In a message dated September 5, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Geoffrey Hanley said the news of Knight’s passing had been received with “profound sadness.”
The Ministry said Knight, as a recipient of a Taiwanese scholarship, had “passionately pursued her educational goals” and represented “great promise, dedication, and commitment” to her education and future.
“The Ministry of Education shares in your grief and recognize that no words can adequately ease the pain of losing a child,” Hanley said.
He expressed hope that the memories of Knight, the impact she made and the promise she carried would provide her family and close friends with strength and comfort in the days ahead.
The Taiwan Embassy concluded its message with a prayer for Knight’s eternal peace.
