You may not have heard of Davos, Switzerland. But it’s there, where some of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful executives meet for a conference each January. The event is known as the World Economic Forum. And for those wanting a break, its amazing alpine scenery at 1,560 meters above sea level, makes it a popular destination for visitors from all over the world
Among the 3,000 attendees, many well known people are participants in the forum: Jamie Dimon, CEO of J. P. Morgan; Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft; Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber; David Solomon; CEO of Goldman Sachs; Bill and Melinda Gates; Jeff Bezos of Amazon; Ursula van der Leyen of the European Union; Volodmyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine. Even Donald Trump has attended twice. And many more world celebrities, including from China. As well as rulers of Muslim countries, among them the king of Saudi Arabia and the ambassadors from Venezuela, the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Africa.
One of the most urgent topics raised during the forum is climate change, along with worsening poverty in Africa and Asia. And that’s without mentioning problems with illegal immigrants, rising crime in poor nations like Haiti, political corruption, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
For the rest of us, we can only wait and see. And keep our fingers crossed for a better world.
