TRAVEL by Eric Mackenzie Lamb

A few years ago, I made a visit to Greenland. I landed at Kanger Vesslag airport, just north of the arctic circle. Looking out from the plane’s window as we made the approach to landing, I was amazed by the bright colors of the buildings in the nearby city. And this was just a taste of what I’d see later.

The I Although Greenland’s size is 836,000 square miles, its population is only around 57,000 people, most of whom live in the south of the island. One of the reasons for the population’s sparse numbers in the north is due to the extreme cold, as well as the fact that the area is covered by ice and snow year round, which makes it impossible to have roads or railway lines. And because these remote areas are home to thousands of polar bears, the area isn’t safe for humans
