(Basseterre, St. Kitts) – Twin brothers and a teenager have been charged with murder in the wake of an ambush that left two people dead and six wounded. The men charged were not part of the nine people first arrested in connection with the crime, according to Inspector Cromwell Henry of the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police. Nine individuals were arrested and discharged in connection with the double homicide, he said. The three men facing charges were brought in separately from the first nine persons. A total of 12 suspects have been investigated in connection with the double murder. Inspector Henry did not speculate on the possibility of more people being charged with this crime. “This investigation is ongoing,” Inspector Henry said. “We”re not closing the door on anything.” Torday Burroughs, 20, and Torquel Burroughs, 20 and Akil Anthony, 19, of Cunningham Village have been arrested and charged with murder, according to the police. The homicide victims, Travon “Waxy” Francis and Desroy “Shootout” Walwyn, were murdered in the early hours of Nov. 30 near a club on the Island Main Road at Cayon. Six others were hurt when two masked men opened fire. The attackers then fled on foot. “We don’t think the other six were intended victims,” Inspector Henry said. “They were just caught in the crossfire.” Four of the wounded were treated and detained at the hospital. One person was treated and released. The sixth person refused to give his name and left the facility. Authorities have declined to reveal the motive behind the killings or if the ambush was gang-related. This is the third murder case in a row that has resulted in suspects being charged. On Nov. 30, Gavon Daniel, 25, of Cotton Ground was charged with the slaying of Llewellen “Mike” Martin, 54, also of Cotton Ground. Police have released no information on the possible motive behind the slaying. Mr. Martin was found lying in a pool of blood at his Cotton Ground home Sunday, Nov. 23. He died as a result of trauma and shock due to multiple stab wounds to his body and neck. On Oct. 30, Alejandro Nisbette, 58, originally of the Dominican Republic and living on Nevis, was killed with a machete. His body was found near the Nevis airport. Sandy Nisbette, his nephew, has been charged with the murder. There have been 22 murders during 2008 in the Federation. Five have been committed on Nevis.
