There is nothing classy, courteous, civil, gracious, sensitive, enlightening, cultivated, tasteful, urbane or refined about uncontrolled loud music. All of our citizens ought to be aware of the debasing and debilitating qualities that loud music may be subliminally inflicting, especially on our most precious possessions – our youths, conditioning their minds and directing their thoughts and energies towards less than wholesome activities.
Loud music is aggressive, intrusive, overwhelming and overpowering. When the privacy of one’s home is invaded by someone else’s loud music, whether it is a neighbour’s or from someone’s parked car, or from a business place down the road, the intrusion is often worse than burglary, because the burglar is only on your premises long enough to grab a few valuables and leave. But the invasive, loud music may go on for hours, torturing you until it eventually stops. Worse still, the next day or night it may begin all over again.
Uncontrolled loud music caters to or helps breed, develop and sustain attitudes of wantonness, carelessness, lewdness, lawlessness and disdain towards those in whom it may cause discomfort or distress. It has been suggested that in previous eras before the means for and practice of playing loud music became so popular, there was much less civil disorder, crime and other harmful activities amongst the general population and youths in particular. The suspected correlation between increasingly loud music and increases in criminal and other problems should be seriously considered by the entire community. We should not allow or condone the privacy of anyone’s home to be invaded, whether by burglars stealing our valuables, or loud music, robbing us of our peace and quiet!
