stevethomas@thestkittsnevisobserver.com (Charlestown, Nevis) – Two incidents of violence were reported during Culturama, but police officials expressed overall satisfaction with the strategy implemented by law enforcement personnel to keep things under control during the festivities. “We believe the additional officers sent to Nevis and the strategy of police on Nevis, that is, zero tolerance for violence, were successful during Culturama,” Inspector Cromwell Henry of the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police said. “There were no major incidents. A few people were arrested for marijuana possession.” Police are investigating the Aug. 2 stabbing of Ibal Tyson of Low Street that happened about 4:45 a.m. inside the Cultural Village in the area known as the “Bull Pen.” According to police, Mr. Tyson was stabbed in the abdomen with a sharp instrument while he was in the crowd. He was taken to Alexandra Hospital for treatment. Another incident occurred at about 4:50 a.m. on Aug. 2 just outside the Cultural Village. Investigations reveal that Faish James of Bath Village was struck in the forehead by an object that was thrown in the crowd. The object caused a wound on James” forehead, he was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he was also treated and detained for observation. The injuries to Mr. Tyson and Mr. Bath were not life-threatening, according to police.
