(Frigate Bay, St. Kitts)”The beautiful landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis; the rich culture and history of the twin-island Federation; the talent and creativity of natives; and the many things to see and do in the country, will now reach more people visiting the nation’s shores with the launching of a visitor channel. The St. Kitts Visitor Channel, which is channel 70 in the local Cable TV package, was launched at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on December 17.” The Channel has as its objective to help the visitor to find things to do and places to go while on vacation in the Federation. Manager of the Hotel and Tourism Association, Michael Head, said that a survey carried out in March found that many people were not aware of the many things that they can do in St. Kitts.” The channel is also designed for local businesses to broadcast their products to the tourist and to the general public. Visitors to the Federation will know about the channel by way of stickers that will be placed on every television set in every hotel room. According to Mr. Head, the corporate community has been very supportive especially in the area of advertisement because they want to sell their products. Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas in his remarks said that this initiative shows that the government is fully rooted in making tourism the main engine of growth and development for St. Kitts and Nevis. It brings opportunities to many stakeholders in the society including businesses, those who are engaged in restaurants and those involved in the cottage industry. “I believe that our visitors after this film observed on the visitor channel will no longer be able to say, “There is not enough to do, and not enough places to go,” Dr. Douglas said. The venture is sponsored by Brisbane Productions out of St. Kitts and the Hotel and Tourism Association. Those at the launching included Minister of State with responsibility for Tourism, Richard Skerritt, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Rosecita Jeffers and a representative from Brisbane Productions.
