(Basseterre, St. Kitts)”Members of the police Strike Force were targeted with rocks from unseen assailants hiding in an alley and behind a fence as the officers conducted a nighttime vehicle search. None of the officers were struck with stones, but the missiles landed all about them. When an officer fired a warning shot from a pistol, the rock-tossing assailants realized they were out gunned and the missiles ceased to fly. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on the night of Dec. 2 in the McKnight area while Strike Force operatives were conducting a search of a vehicle for illegal firearms. From where the missiles were coming from, Strike Force officers were unable to see who was throwing the rocks, according to Public Relations officer Cromwell Henry. “Throwing missiles is an offense, and it is even worse when they are being thrown at a police officer,” said Inspector Henry. “This is a serious matter and if we catch someone doing this, they will be charged with obstructing an officer during the execution of their duty. Police are there to ensure the safety of the public and it doesn’t help when the officer’s safety is put at risk by someone throwing stones at them.”
