According to the carnival calendar, the 2007-2008 Carnival officially came to an end when the las’ lap jumpups concluded on the night of January 2nd.
Now that carnival is behind us and all the judging for the pageants, calypso and soca shows, parades and Road March title are over, there is the usual contention that the judging for the season’s events was poor, unfair and blatantly biased.
So we asked: Did the right crowns and titles go to the correct persons, groups and bands? Do you agree with the decisions that the judges made?
John – I must say that I am a 100 percent happy that Grand Masters won the Road March title. Grand Masters was clearly the only band that paraded on Fort Street the most and for that I think they really worked for the title. I also think that the calypso show was judged fairly.
Renell – I think that Fatisha should have been crowned Miss St. Kitts, her performance was very outstanding. She may have messed up on the interview segment but her performance throughout the entire show was consistent. Her talent stood out from the rest and I was very disappointed when she was not awarded for best talent. I also think that Nu Vybz Band should have won the Road March title.
Stanley – I think the judging for the Female Calypso Show and the Final Calypso Show was fair. However, I disagree with the judges’ decision for the Miss St Kitts Pageant and the Road March title. Fatisha really deserved the crown; she was clearly the crowd’s favorite and performed the best on the night of the show. I also think that Nu Vybz should have won the Road March title with either Salute or Lion Paw.
Mariska – I am not a big fan of calypso but I think that the show was judged fairly. For the Road March I think that Nu Vybz should have won it. Konris did a very good job at the Soca show and think he worked hard for both of his crowns.
Mr P – First of all I would like to take this opportunity and congratulate all the winners for Carnival 2007-2008. The judges’ decisions are final. However, Fatisha Imo displayed true talent and beauty at the Miss St Kitts Pageant, I think she deserved to be crowned. The judging for the Finals for the Calypso show was judged fairly. The seven finalists were no match for the “sleeping tiger” Konris as he was very creative on the night of the show.
Shylo – I think Nu Vybz should have won the Road March title as they portrayed nothing but raw talent. In the up coming years I would like the Carnival committee to outline the judging criteria not only to the bands but also to the general public so we can have a better idea how they go about judging for the Road March because clearly it is not comprehended by the public.
I also think Fatisha should have won the Miss St Kitts Pageant.
