(Editor’s note: The Young Leaders group at Lynn Jeffers School on Nevis is competing with schools across the region to meet the requirements of this year’s project, “Bridging The Gap.” Last year, the school finished in second place in this contest, which is sponsored by RBTT Bank. Students involved in this project are conducting interviews to discuss issues that have an impact on a wide variety of people. The Observer is publishing excerpts from their work today and in the coming weeks. The Observer is not requiring the use of last names in this instance.)
This week: Young Leaders questions members of the community about their relationships with their siblings.
Are you jealous of your sibling?
Chad – No, I love my sibling. My siblings are way jealous of me. They think I must look up to them.
How can you improve your current relationship?
Laquisha – Send them away from me! Relax and make me think of all the things they would want from me when they get back.
What are some key points to your siblings relationship and how is your relationship usually with your sibilings?
Cleon – My brother’s very disgusting to me. Me and my brother sometimes talk to each other. My sister sometimes gets on my nerves but she’s my sister so I love her to death. If anybody gets on her nerves, I’ll get them. What is also strange is she tells me everything. I usually would have thought that she would have told one of her friends but she tells me.
How do you react with your sibling in public?
Kenisha – I ignore them. We’re very close, we’re kind of close, sometimes.
Do you sometimes think about the kind of company your siblings hang around with?
Cleon – No, I don’t because I know all of them and yes because it worries me that they can get in trouble.
Have you ever liked your sibling’s friends?
Skylar – Yes I have because they looked good. I have but only because my sibling tricked me.
Bill – No ! because they’re young – they’re girls!
Shanet – Yes, because they looked good.
Janet – No, because they are too young for me.
What makes up your relationship with your sibling?
Shanet – We talk a lot at times, socializing.
Do you have any doubts about your siblings and what is your current relationship like?
Spencer – Yes, because they are always on my nerves – they vex me! They make me feel like they don’t like me, that we can’t trust anything with each other. We are able to react because we are in the same environment. Our relationship is very unstable.
What do you like best about your current relationship and what do like least?
Dijuan – I like that I don’t have to talk to them. I don’t like that they are wealthy and they refuse to share the wealth. They would buy me anything but refuse to give me money.
